Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The ability to upgrade items allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its base stats or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.
Items with weak bases, like rings, can be upgraded into more robust bases. Items with strong bases, like the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade trinkets, weapons, armor and gathering tools, giving an added bonus or effect while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, or found in loot from enemies, or received from missions and chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.
In order to upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the player must select it, and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade statistics and the required component or materials.
There are three types of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are gems that are only available in legendary and ascended equipment. They offer the same bonuses as jewels, but cannot be used with any other equipment. Suffix upgrades that can be put in gathering tools, will include their name at the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for instance adding a Glyph to a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would make it a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
If a player upgrades a gathering tool, and then replaces glyphs with another glyph, the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component the Best item upgrade will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions, which are able to be swapped.
Leveling
Path of Exile’s upgrade system differs from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item can be upgraded a certain number of times before it is « leveled out. » The cost of upgrading increases with each level, but the materials needed do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a few essential items and maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the cost of upgrades across several pieces.
This allows the item to receive upgraded components and a greater chance of success. This bonus is known as Artisan’s Energy and it resets to 0 if the upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
When a piece is upgraded to the maximum level, it will be able to receive affixes to boost its attributes. The number of affixes that are available will depend on the item’s base type. For example an uncommon or exclusive weapon with a base that is standard will only have two affixes. A legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade will require a certain number of Flightstones and crests depending on the current level of the Item Upgrader Kit and the item slot it’s in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.
If an item fails to reach its maximum level, the NPC gives players the option to transfer it to another character and re-infuse the item with a different set or upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of material however it will result in a lower chance of success.
Engineers use a level in order to compare the height of the building with a known location, such as an existing benchmark. This method is known as a « level loop. » This involves taking readings using the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method guarantees that structures are built to an extremely high level of accuracy and security.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of altering the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial part of the game, and it can boost the strength, damage, or other attributes. You can do this via the menu for items or by pressing the Reroll button whenever you upgrade an item. Rerolling can be costly and should only be done in very rare instances.
The game lets players recycle upgraded items, which can be used to obtain Reroll tokens. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item, or to upgrade another item of the same type. Recyclable items come with an indicator of level that indicates how much of the upgrade gauge is filled. The cost and rarity of upgrading an item will determine the level of filling.
Prior to this, certain upgrades were given priority affixes which made them more accessible for players to roll. This meant that you’d receive the stats that mattered most to your build often than other. This included stats like the armor’s total armour, thorns, and control impaired duration reduced stats or the weapon’s bonus attack speed and strike chance.
This has changed since the latest patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for every stat. This can be a great or a bad thing, depending on your needs and wants from your equipment.
Each upgraded item can come with a bonus that increases the item’s power by a specific percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added to the normal affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the greater your chance of obtaining a unique bonus.
The game also features various sets that offer a set-based bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are installed on an item. This is an excellent way to add a lot of power to a specific character without spending a lot of money.
Many players opt to reroll their gear and weapons, particularly in the beginning stages of the game. This is because rerolling could provide a much faster path to a powerful character which allows them to achieve higher levels and progress in the game more quickly.
Sets
Sets are collections that can be organized differently. They can have different sizes, contain no elements at all, or contain just one element. They can be used to organize data or sort information. They can also be useful in analyzing patterns. Sets can be classified in a variety of ways, including size and shape.
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom provides an extensive selection of upgradeable set items. Some are worth upgrading, while others aren’t. Upgrades are worth it for armor sets that provide high defense value and set bonuses. Upgrades to weapons aren’t as effective in improving stats as their purple counterparts. This makes them less appealing to upgrade when your collection of weapons and armor pieces is already huge.
Some set items are upgraded to take advantage of their unique procs, which can be particularly useful in certain builds. Guillaume’s Face face and Aldur’s Advance boots are examples of this. Both were upgraded from Exceptional Winged Helm and Exceptional Mirrored Boots respectively, increasing their defense by 217 to 321 (Strength requirement and Level requirement were increased as well).
Another reason to upgrade certain items is to bring them into parity with their tiers. For example the Immortal King set has a large level range, between 29 and 76. Upgrades to lower level items can increase their defense and make them more competitive in terms of damage.
To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button on their character screen. The item upgrader kit will be displayed with its characteristics, as well as the necessary items required to upgrade it. For instance, the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials and 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also look up the upgrade requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.
Generally speaking the jewelry and weapons have more value for trade when they are fully upgraded than armor. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have spells or glyphs that damage weapons. This will result in a significant increase in their performance. Weapons with an upgraded appearance will benefit from this upgrade because its defense will increase as it moves from purple to gold.
