Driving License Scooter Laws
Based on the state you live in depending on your state, you may not have to have a special license to drive on a scooter. New York, for instance is classified in accordance with their maximum speed, and requires registration, a license and insurance.
In Alaska, a motorcycle endorsement is required on your driver’s license or you’ll require an additional motorcycle permit to operate a scooter or moped.
Mopeds

Two-wheeled bikes aren’t required to be titled or registered, but drivers must obtain a valid driver’s license or moped permit in order to drive on public roads. Montana like Pennsylvania considers mopeds to be a type of motorcycle and requires that the driver must have an MJ Class (motorcycle license) to operate them. The state also requires that drivers of mopeds wear a helmet and eye-protection. The registration procedure for mopeds is the same as for regular motorcycles, and all owners must register them and provide proof of insurance in order to drive them on roads that are public.
Other states have similar regulations for scoots and mopeds. They must be are titled, insured and registered. A valid driver’s licence or moped licence is required to drive on public roads. Other states might have different definitions for these kinds of vehicles and require a certain amount of education to operate them. Scooters
Scooters are self-propelled cars with two wheels, designed for personal transportation. They feature bodywork that conceals most of the mechanicals, and typically, they have storage space that is integral for storage, like a front leg shield or built-in seat. In Georgia, for example all drivers and operators of motorized bicycles and mopeds must wear a helmet in order to legally be on the road.
The process to obtain an motorcycle license is generally similar to obtaining a regular driver’s license, and typically requires passing a written test at the local Driver License Exam Station, and then taking an on-cycle driving test. After you have passed both of these tests, the next step is to pass your motorcycle road test on an off-street test with a qualified examiner.
You must bring your motorbike, a helmet, and appropriate eye protection to the road test. After passing your road test you will be issued a motorized bike license. In the majority of cases, you will need to also register your motorcycle and pay a small fee for registration.
Motorcycles are generally deemed to be more hazardous than mopeds, which is why they require a higher minimum age for licensing as an operator and stricter rules for operation. In New Mexico, for example you must be 16 years old to operate a motorbike. You must also pass a safety course and a rider’s test, and a riding test.
A helmet is required when riding a motorcycle on public property, even private properties. You must also carry liability insurance for your vehicle.
You’ll need an M motorcycle class license to operate motorized scooters on roads. This license is applicable to all vehicles with motors of 50 cc or greater, but you must still pass a knowledge test as well as an exam for driving skills to get a motorcycle license in the state. You’ll also have to register your motorcycle and pay a small inspection and registration fee.
